Who's our audience?

In order to understand who our target demographic was, we created user personas using data we acquired from our online news readers. Below are the three users we identified; ideal, mass, and validating. Hillary, our ideal user is very engaged with current events, she is always interested in the newest trends, and wants to treat her body well. Our mass user Mark browses social media for entertainment and occasionally news, he’s into having fun, and isn’t very engaged with the news. Lastly Eugene, our validating user is very politically engaged but skeptical of most news outlets.

App Visability

Branding played a big part of our process; we wanted to reflect the company’s design and make sure we were noticed on people’s homescreens. The playful naming convention of MicCheck helped inform the visual design options. Eventually we decided to leverage our brand recognition and utilize our abbreviated logotype to direct users eyes to the app.

conversion flow

Getting new users

We knew that the key to getting the app to more users was designing a strong conversion flow. We envisioned a system where users were constantly converting new users through sharing. With social being our main traffic driver, users coming to the Mic website would click through from a promotional banner which would direct them to download the app. After getting familiar, users would hopefully share an article they found on MicCheck on to their own social channels. When a new user saw the post on their friends’ channel, upon clicking into it they would be shown the post within a custom-designed iframe prompting them to download the app.
